Surrey data centre campus
Working directly for the client, we secured an additional uplift on a constrained network, taking the site from 23 to 27 MVA across its two 11 kV supplies, and coordinated the DNO works through to completion. On a second building, we raised a supply from 2.4 to 4 MVA, giving N-1 resilience that was not possible before.
What we did
- Established what capacity was genuinely available to the site on a constrained network, and which allocation belonged to it.
- Secured the additional uplift with the DNO: each 11 kV supply from 11.5 to 13.5 MVA.
- Coordinated site meetings, access and the DNO works, through to signed connection agreements.
- On a second building, secured an increase from 2.4 to 4 MVA, giving two 4 MVA supplies with N-1 resilience.
- Progressed a separate, longer-term application for a much larger connection.
27 MVA is the combined import capacity of two separate, non-firm supplies. It is not IT load, and it is not 27 MVA from either supply. The supplies must not run in parallel, and if an 11 kV circuit is lost, on-site generation carries that side. That is why the supply strategy and the site’s electrical design have to be set together.
